This allows you to open (exposed) carry a firearm when you are in uniform. You need to complete this 2-day 14-hour course to be able to apply for your Exposed Firearms Permit.
You need to submit an application to BSIS upon completion. You then qualify for each specific caliber you intend to carry. Firearms requalification is needed twice each year in order for you to renew at the end of two years. In other words, you need to requalify four times by the time you renew after two years.
You need to have a valid Guard card, or have completed the Guard card class and be in process in order to take this class. It is a mandatory prerequisite.
Taking the BSIS Powers to Arrest class at Bullseye the day before the 2-day Exposed Firearm class at Bullseye meets this requirement.
The course is 8 hours long on the first day and is all classroom/lecture. The second day is 6 hours long and has the live-fire/range portion.
Cost is $200.00 for both days. This does not include the Live-scan fingerprinting fees or the State’s fees. It is only for the class.
